RNLI Wells Life Boat Station, Wells-next-the-sea

The existing Wells-Next-the-Sea Royal National Lifeboat Institution lifeboat station is positioned on a spit at the end of the sea wall and adjacent to the main access channel. The existing station suffered severe damage in December 2013 as a result of storms due to its exposed location. The age and size of the existing station and its vulnerability to storms means a new larger station is required at a new location.

The new station will contain a boathouse, souvenir outlet, changing room, crew office and public engagement space. A ramp over the sand spit and gabions to the north is proposed for launching and recovery of the ALB and a small ramp to the east to launch and recover the ILB.

Marbas have been appointed by the RNLI to carry out the design of the building super and sub-structure, the design of the launch ramp and the design of the apron around the building which is some 3.5 metres above existing beach level.
