Jane Austen's House Museum, Chawton

Jane Austen’s House was built in the 18th Century and was home to Jane Austen and her sister Cassandra from 1809 to 1817. Recent surveys identified that the roof is in poor condition and in need of repair and there are concerns that the items held within the building are at risk of water damage.

Working with Pritchard Architecture as Conservation and Lead Architect, Marbas were appointed to oversee major roof repairs to Jane Austen’s House in Chawton.

With Marbas as Conservation Structural Engineers the project saw the complete replacement of the roof, salvaging as many of the roof tiles as possible alongside any necessary timber repairs and conservation work to the chimneys.

The roof repairs were completed in the summer of 2022.
