D-Day Museum, Portsmouth

Portsmouth City Council instructed Marbas to work alongside Hampshire County Architects to carry out the design of the structural and civils works to the D-Day Museum in Southsea.

The refurbishment of the museum is to commemorate the D-Day landings and tell the story of the planned operations. The works package included structural design of internal alterations to the existing museum to create larger engagement spaces and modern facilities including a café. New structures were designed for the proposed exhibits to be suspended throughout the museum.

The civils works included the design of sub-bases to hard-landscaped areas, surface water drainage channels and the soakaways for a new landscape plan. Along with structural design of the Memorial Totems and new foundations for exhibits including the ‘Monty’ statue and a decommissioned World War II anti-aircraft gun.
